Special Exhibits

MQX Midwest is pleased to have the following
special exhibits for your viewing pleasure.

Margaret Solomon Gunn Special Exhibit

Retrospective Quilts by Margaret Solomon Gunn – This exhibit showcases quilts Margaret has made over the last 23 years. Not knowing any differently, her earliest pieces are simply made and hand quilted. After purchasing a long arm in 2009 and being coaxed into entering a quilt show, this once-engineer was firmly bitten by the machine quilting bug. Follow her growth and progression in the industry with 14 award-winning machine quilted pieces, and several earlier works.

Twisted Exhibit

Twisted by Mary Kerr – Twisted is an exciting exhibit that focuses on the incorporation of unfinished vintage textiles into a modern quilt aesthetic. Scraps of vintage blocks and top fragments have been recycled to create new innovative quilts. These pieces begged to be offered a second chance and they now serve as a bridge between the vintage past and the modern future.

Lion King Special Exhibit

Cherrywood Lion King Challenge – In 2016, Cherrywood we announced their second challenge (with permission and support from Disney). Participants from all over the world were challenged to design an original quilt with 2 basic colors - gold and black. Everyone started with the same fabrics, same theme, same size...and the results are jaw-dropping! A panel of three jurors selected 138 Finalists, out of 304 entries, for the first round of judging. In the second round, 120 amazing quilts were selected for this traveling exhibit. Disney select 20 quilts to display in the theater on Broadway for the 20th Anniversary Celebration of The Lion King!
