MQX Quilt Festival - Pacific Northwest
Special Exhibits 2013
This year’s selection of special exhibits will range from markedly traditional to highly modern. Each exhibit has a unique story and breathtaking quilts for your enjoyment.
Selected Works of Melody Johnson

Melody Johnson is a curious hybrid in the quilt world. Her quilts look pieced or appliquéd but are actually fused. Viewed from a distance one of her distinctive quilts might be mistaken for a painting since they are full of dazzling colors resulting from her specially hand dyed cottons and silks. There is a casual feeling to her lines and shapes, sometimes like those found in abstract art (she is also a painter) and sometimes they echo the imagery in nature. Residing in rural Tennessee, Melody cares for her ill husband, gardens, paints, knits and still makes lots of quilts. We are pleased to have this lovely collection of Melody’s quilt on display. The Four Seasons by Casa Patchwork & Quilting of Bassano Del Grappa, Italy

Beginning in 2010, the ever enthusiastic members of Casa Patchwork and Quilting Guild began a journey of creating “banners” to represent the four seasons. The only rules were to use three basic colors to represent each season and consistent measurements left a lot of creative options open to each quilter. The result is a 40 foot long, 75 banner collection of color and imagination. Thank you to Alex Veronelli of Aurifil Thread for providing an introduction to this group.

White-on-White Quilts as Family Treasures
Mary Nyquist Koons began learning heirloom sewing techniques in the early 90’s. After several requests for quilts made from white family fabrics, Mary began the tradition of creating white quilts for various family occasions. In collaboration with quilter Betty Anne Guadalupe, these quilts have been a creative challenge for both women. Eight quilts will be presented, “all related, all heartfelt; some for weddings, all for love.” White-on-White, WOW!
