MQX 2010 Charity Challenge

With the economy in shambles, it is difficult to select a single charity.  This year, because there are so many deserving charities we determined that it is best to support a charity that directly benefits part of our own industry.  MQX is pleased to announce the beneficiary of the 2010 Charity Challenge will be The New England Quilt Museum.

As the historic center of the nation’s textile industry, it is fitting that the New England Quilt Museum calls Lowell, Massachusetts its home.  Located in a Josiah Peabody built, 18,000 square foot, former bank, the museum houses exhibition galleries, a library, resource center, a permanent collection of several hundred quilts, and much more.

Thank You to Corporate Sponsor, Sew Batik (Diane & Bruce Magidson) for donating the fabrics for this year’s Charity Challenge.  Each kit contains a combination of 6 fat quarters and quarter yard cuts of luscious batik fabrics.  Please visit their website www.sewbatik.com should you need additional yardage. The fabric names and colors are listed below:

  • Charity ChallengeNuance Gradation – Cantaloupe

  • Nuance Gradation – Mint

  • Nuance Gradation – Hyacinth Violet

  • Carnival – La Bamba

  • Layla – Arriba

  • Pinpoints – Calypso Pink Multi

2. The maximum size of the challenge quilt should be 40–45" square with total overall linear inches not to exceed 180". It does not have to be square.

3. Any amount of additional fabrics may be added, however a recognizable amount of ALL of the challenge fabrics must be used.

4. Your entry must have two layers of fabric, top and bottom with a middle layer of batting and be machine quilted.

5. Embellishments of any kind are permitted, but must be attached securely.

6. The challenge quilt must have a 4–5" hanging sleeve.
