Special Exhibits - New England 2019
- MQX
is pleased to present exhibits that are more than simply a bunch of quilts hanging at a quilt show. Each exhibit has an interesting story.........

The Prince Cherrywood Challenge – Every year, Cherrywood challenges artists to create a unique piece of art with a limited color palette. In 2018, the challenge was to make an original 20" x 20" quilt taking inspiration from the music, movies, and legacy of the late Prince Rogers Nelson. Almost 400 entries were submitted and MQX is pleased to showcase 75 of these beautiful quilts.

It's Better in Leather Challenge

Gypsy Wood Leathers is sponsoring the first ever quilted leather challenge to be exhibited at MQX New England. Cathy Wiggins' quilted leather journey began in 2013 when she created Oscar, A Dragon's Tale which was quilted leather depicting a book cover. It won many awards and took her quilting talents in a whole new direction.

Visit www.GypsyWoodLeathers.com for extensive leather products or visit their booth at MQX, Booth 148.

The Sue Garman Collection - Sue began designing her own quilts over thirty years ago. Since that time, she made hundreds of quilts and is probably best-known for both appliqué quilts and intricately pieced quilts. Her daughters, Jenny and Mary, have graciously permitted MQX to display a small portion of her quilts.

A note from Janet-Lee: For those of you that enjoyed the space connection at MQX New England 2018 last spring, you might find this interesting........ While a prolific piecer, quilter, and pattern designer, Sue Garman had a very important day job as the Associate Director of the Johnson Space Center in Houston. In addition, her husband, Jack Garman, was the man whose judgment call saved the moon landing in 1969 by letting Neil Armstrong know that the 1202 and 1201 alarms were ok to override.  JL

Snow & Ice-Dyed Mandala Challenge

Cindy Lohbeck has taught for MQX for several years and her students have produced beautiful mandalas in class and at home.

The only thing better than watching my students light up as they unwrap their Snow & Ice Dyed Mandalas, is hearing how they get inspired to quilt and embellish them! Some see faces, bugs and butterflies hidden in the beautiful crystallized images, others see a way to cut them up and piece or appliqué them with other fabrics. It’s time to see how they inspire you!
